Half Way Point!!! - Day 71

Hello all...I just finished my third set of today - which means since January 1, I've completed 2525 burpees...exactly half of the total number of burpees that we will do by April 10th. If you think about it, today is a HUGE accomplishment. I'm still doing all of them every day. I've been playing sports/been active my whole life. I constantly figure how "how much do I have left?". When running, I say to myself - I have done 75%, only 25% left. In a rugby match, I break the minutes down into quarters or eighths even. Now that we are 71% done with the days and 50% done with the burpees, I'm feeling accomplished.

PS: Is anyone else's lower back starting to hurt??

  1. My shoulders ache perpetually. Try tightening your core in your pushup to take pressure off your lower back.
    YAY HALF WAY!

  3. My back is good-for once, but my wrists are absolutely killing me. The pain woke me up this morning. I forget how important joint health is in a marathon, which is essentially what this challenge is. Perhaps, I will switch my style from take the weekends off, catch up during the weekdays to doing them faithfully every day. Those who do them that way - do your wrists hurt?

  4. My wrists have not hurt me at all. A couple of days my right shoulder was extremely sore. This is likely due to a nagging rugby injury that has come and gone over the years. It flares up every once in awhile. What you may want to get is Topricin. Dr. B recommended it to me for joint pain in general. I've used it for my knees, back and shoulder. It's pricey, but great.

  5. Topricin -relieves the pain both of 88 year old grandmothers and 28 year old rugby players. (Remind me why we play this sport again:)

  6. my low back has been a little cranky since day 50 - I thought it was a core tightening issue, but I have been focusing on that. I actually think burpees are helping fix my posture by strengthening everything. My low back gets sore with yoga too because it starts settling in the correct posture.

My wrists are fine but my knees are creaky and slightly sore. My hip flexors are tight. My arms are getting huge (for me) - not sure how I feel about that...

  7. No real health issues here, TIME is my main issue. I took a business trip recently to Memphis and WOW was I in the hole, but dug out and current now.

  8. Decided to have a little fun while doing the burpees and have done them in tabata intervals. That's 8 rounds of 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest. Will take a brief break, and then tackle them again.

    Yesterday, March 13th:
    round 1: 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 6, 6, 6
    round 2: 9, 9, 8, 7, 7, 6, 6, 6

    Today, March 14th:
    r3: 10, 9, 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 6

Have another round to do later today, but feel pretty good at this point. Congrats to everyone who make it to the half way point!!!!

  9. I caught this from lifehacker.com and I feel compelled to comment. I don't quite understand the challenge and I don't understand why you would put such stress on your body. Working out is a key function of a healthy life style. However, doing so in a manner that allows for no real rest is just a bad idea. What will you do at the end of it? It'll probably take some time for your body to heal... anyway, maybe I just don't understand, but I think the best results with a workout come from rest. Resting is where all the 'magic' happens and your fitness increases and your muscles strengthen. That's all, don't mean to rain on your parade. I just hope you don't cause yourself permanent damage to your wrists or backs or other areas you're over stressing.

  10. @ Anonymous: I understand your concern about overuse, but different challengers do the burpees differently to ward this off. Some of us do small sets throughout the day so there isn't as much stress on our joints. Sometimes, if someone is really sore, they'll skip a few days to heal and then make up the owed burpees over time. Other people, upon realizing that burpees exacerbate existing injuries, have dropped out of the challenge. It's all about listening to your body.
