Thanks to Kelly, we have many new friends from lifehacker.com! Welcome! (For anyone confused, read yesterday's comments)
Today is Day 76 for us, meaning 76 burpees today, 77 tomorrow.... But today can be day 1 for anyone.
Do we have any new burpee challengers who are going to start their own? What are your goals? Do you have friends you can burpee with? Let us know!!
Frankie, I am going to add to your post:
I've been meaning to put this video clip up - and since we have new people in the challenge today is a good day for that. This video is from Day 60 when I did a timed challenge (meaning no rest between sets). I wanted to see how my form fell apart. The whole thing took me 5 min 50sec - but this clip is just 10 somewhere in the beginning and already I creak back into my squat.
If other people have video clips and aren't a contributor send them to me (Rachel) at u19rugby@gmail.com to be posted!

That's just hot; nothing like women doing bodyweight exercises.
ReplyDeleteNow that you have some traffic from LifeHacker, tell us the improvements you've seen since Day One. Weight loss? Muscle tone? Is this just good aerobic exercise or will it really change your body?
ReplyDeleteThat is a good question. The overall challenge had over 65 people in it on day 30 all over the world. The range of fitness was probably pretty diverse as well. At this point there are 20-30 people accounted for still in the challenge - though there may be more linked to the facebook group that haven't chimed in.
ReplyDeleteThe contributors to the blog are a pretty fit group to start with- and still we've been commenting that we've seen increased muscle tone (abs and arms). At this point many of us are also having soreness (hips, low back, knees, shoulders)from the sheer number. I don't know about weight loss - my guess is that if people had weight to lose that this challenge would shed pounds for sure.
Anyone else want to add to that?
Just saw this on Lifehacker and did my first burpee. I don't really know what I expect to get out of this other than the satisfaction of sticking to it.
ReplyDeletealso saw the post on lifehacker and did my first! i believe day 100 will be on 6/25. hopefully i'll be able to make it! (current wrist and knee problems may cause an issue...)
ReplyDeleteBurpees are my only exercise these days, I don't think I am losing weight but I am feeling stronger! This has been a mental challenge for me as much as a physical one, I mean, EVERY DARNED DAY THERE ARE MORE BURPEES TO DO!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is totally a mental challenge! I think the mind is more and more important as the numbers grow, especially for those of us in the hole. I feel accomplished every day when I whittle my burpee debt lower.
ReplyDeleteI have seen increased muscle tone, leg and shoulder strength. Though I've acutally gained 3 pounds, I've dropped a pant size. My only exercise since Jan 1 has been burpees in addition to 2-3x/week cardio (running or spinning). The reason I'm still in it is because of the results I've seen.
ReplyDeletePS: rachel - i had seen this clip of you via your other blog...thus yesterday when at the gym, I definitely put that music on - what a great burpee-ing song!!
ReplyDeleteJLB - the other day after 4 minutes Madonna's Give it to Me came on. EVEN better. It starts out what are you waiting for no one is gonna show you how. Then later Don't stop me now, don't need to catch my breath, I can go on and on and on.
ReplyDeleteI've timed it to do my sets during that part and then rest. The song is 5 minutes so I do 2-3 sets during it. TRY it!
Don't want to be a douche, but aren't you supposed to stretch the arms when jumping up? :)
ReplyDeleteStarted too, won't work out though, I've never managed to do 100 pushups on one day...I'm curious how far I'll come...

@Anonymous. Sometimes I do put my arms up (better practice for line out jumping!), but only in short sets because it makes my arms too tired :)
ReplyDeleteWow, nice. You are strong. Most women wouldn't do half as many as you did there in that clip, you did more. Plus you were leaping at the end of the burpee, which is what you should do of course. I liked the leaps.
